Surfrider Foundation and Firewire Collaborate on World’s Most Eco-friendly Surfboard

Firewire-Launch_mw-social The Firewire/Surfrider Foundation collaboration, featuring Firewire’s popular ADDVance model hit US retailers this month. Arguably the most eco-friendly surfboard build available at global retail today, Firewire’s Timbertek construction was an obvious choice for the partnership, and the ADDVance model in particular hadn’t previously been released in TimberTek construction.

Firewire will donate $75.00 per unit sold in the US towards the Surfrider Foundation’s ongoing efforts to protect our coastline and oceans.

Firewire CEO, Mark Price said,“We’re obviously passionate about building the best boards possible, and that is our main focus. However, if we don’t also give back as much as we can along the way we believe that everything else that we might accomplish, is diminished”.

Surfrider CEO, Dr. Chad Nelsen added, “Firewire has been a leader developing high performance, environmentally-friendly surfboard technologies for years so we are thrilled to collaborate on the Surfrider + ADDVance model. The project clearly demonstrates Firewire’s commitment to supporting Surfrider’s coastal protection efforts nationwide.”

Firewire estimates that the ADDVance collaboration could contribute as much as $25,000 to Surfrider in 2015, and potentially double that in 2016.

Helen-Cross

Congratulations to Helen Cross our August Volunteer of the Month! Helen is a CORE member and activist extraordinaire with the First Coast Chapter.

Since getting involved with the First Coast Chapter last year, Chair Paul Hayden reports that Helen has helped with, “everything and anything we needed help with! She has helped with beach cleanups, rallies, Black Tie & Baggies, our art auction, and has been to every meeting!”

Helen is passionate about protecting Florida’s coast from oil and gas exploration. She has attended and provided comments at multiple Bureau of Ocean Energy Management meetings in opposition to the recent proposal to open the Atlantic Coast to seismic airgun blasting.

Helen has lived in Jacksonville since 1999 where she is also a passionate surfer and volunteers with multiple non-profit groups. Somehow she manages to run her own small company, Hel + LLC and work for a Global Logistics Company.
