Message from Outgoing Chair Paul Hayden

As my term as Chair of the First Coast Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation ends, I wanted to send a note of thanks to all of our members, supporters, partners and especially our great executive committee members who have helped to support me and the chapter during this past year. All of your support has made this a great experience for me and makes me proud to be a part of such a great organization that is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of our oceans, waves and beaches.

As I look back on this past year it amazes me that we were able to accomplish so much. We conducted eight beach cleanups, fought for important local and state legislative issues like the bag ban, fought the fight against seismic testing, held booth at numerous school and other festivals and science fairs, taught environmental subjects in schools, became involved with beach access issues, developed a large Ocean Friendly Garden project at Mayport Elementary School, held our annual Black Tie and Baggies/Art Auction where the proceeds were used to support our Ocean Friendly Garden program and help the Saltwater Cowgirls replace some of their gear that was stolen this past summer.

As we get ready to enter 2016 I feel very good about the chapter’s viability and future based on our upcoming leadership and ongoing volunteerism. I hope others will come forward to share their gifts and talents be a part of the process of moving our initiatives forward.

Sincerely,

Paul Hayden
